Akilah Ayanna is a writer, actor, singer/songwriter, dancer, and activist from Chicago, IL. After graduating from NYU Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Drama in 2019, she joined the Ensemble of Mrs. Doubtfire on Broadway as the Wanda Sellner understudy. She was also recently seen performing at the Muny in St. Louis as Pearl in the most recent rewrite of Lerner and Loewe's Paint Your Wagon. Most of her intellectual work is geared toward theatre and performance in the African diaspora and the artistic concepts and conventions of radical political and artistic movements through Black history. Her newest piece in development, How We Sleepwalk Through Water, conjures fragments of the collective Black subconscious and African American folk magic to imagine supernatural afrofutures, reimagine ancestral archives, and navigate sociocultural realities of the present. She currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
